Sunrise Mine/Vesper Peak - June 28, 2003

This is a very challenging and dangerous hike and should only be attempted by the experienced and properly outfitted hiker. The terrain is tough with long stretches of rock scrambling on loose rocks on steeply angled slopes and a steep series of switchbacks on loose rocks with snow on some of the switchbacks. The last section to the peak is about 800 vertical feet through a snow field and requires an ice ax.

There are no smooth sections of trail on this hike longer than about 30 feet. The bulk of the hike is rocky and the trail is not all that pretty. The view from Vesper Peak is quite stunning as are some of the views along the trail. I'm glad we were able to make it to the summit of Vesper Peak as I probably won't do this hike again.
